Workshop on Monitoring the Ocean with Remote Operated Vehicles 

Friday, March 6th  3:00-5:00pm

A special workshop is offered in connection to the conference.  This workshop, Monitoring the Ocean with Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs), targets teachers wishing to engage their students in sceince, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).  In this workshop teachers will:  

  • Increase their content knowledge of marine/aquatic environments
  • Learn strategies for incorporating engineering into investigations
  • Learn to build an ROV within the classroom, and test completed ROVs in a local harbor or pool
  • Learn how to encorporate the physics, engineering, electronics, and hands-on activities of ROVs into science curriculum 
  • Connect with researchers and natural resource managers using ROV technology professionally or monitoring, maping, and management decisions
  • Connect with Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies staff available for in-class visits and ROV support
  • Gain experience and familiarity with  CoastWatch, an ocean stewardship curriculum from the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies
  • Earn one credit from the University of Alaska Anchorage, Kenai Peninsula College, Kachemak Bay Campus
